In February, P2GreeN partners — Bioazul, Axaragua, Trops, Cetaqua, and ICLEI Europe — co-organised a dynamic online workshop exploring how public authorities in Spain can accelerate wastewater reuse for agricultural irrigation.
This timely event brought together a range of voices from the public sector, academia, and private industry, including the Algarrobo Irrigation Community, University of Córdoba, University of Málaga, and Veolia, to discuss both the challenges and opportunities for implementing reclaimed water use at scale.
🗝️ Key takeaway: Unlocking the full potential of treated wastewater in agriculture will require:
- Faster regulatory processes
- Improved infrastructure
- Transparent and accessible water quality data
- More coordinated reuse efforts
- A fair, adaptable tariff structure to make water reuse economically viable
This workshop forms part of P2GreeN’s work to develop practical guidelines for local and regional governments, and to formulate policy recommendations for national and EU institutions. The goal: support the wider adoption of Resource-Oriented Sanitation and build a more circular, climate-resilient future for agriculture in Europe.
