The first Water Resilience Forum: challenges of building a water-secure Europe and P2GreeN’s solutions

On 8 December 2025, the first Water Resilience Forum (WRF) took place in Brussels at premises of the Social Committee (EESC) and the Committee of the Regions (CoR). Following the adoption of the European Water Resilience Strategy, the event was meant as a space to discuss the growing challenges Europe faces in relation to water, including issues such as water scarcity, water quality degradation, and climate-related threats to both human well-being and economic competitiveness.

The forum was organised by the European Commission in collaboration with the EESC and the CoR, with the participation of some key figures, namely the Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy,Jessika Roswall, the President of the CoR, Kata Tüttő, and the President of the EESC, Séamus Boland.

The forum featured six breakout sessions addressing critical water challenges: water efficiency across sectors, financing mechanisms for water infrastructure, industrial competitiveness and zero pollution targets, urban water resilience, upskilling through a proposed European Water Academy, and digital transformation for water management.

The Water Resilience Solutions Pavilion

The forum included also a Water Resilience Solutions Pavilion, a dedicated space with stands to showcase water technologies and innovations, best practice examples from Member States and regions, EU-funded projects, digital solutions and smart water management tools and nature-based solutions for water resilience.

P2GreeN had the opportunity to have a dedicated stand to present our efforts to develop innovative nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) recovery solutions to halt and eliminate N&P pollution and enable the reuse of the vast amounts of nutrient-rich wastewater that are lost in sewers. N&P are two important plant nutrients, but at the same time significant water polluters. In line with the of the event’s objective to tackle the challenges we are facing to build a water-secure Europe, P2GreeN showcased its efforts to improve water resilience while promoting a circular economy.

The event also gave us a chance to connect with some key figures, including Commissioner Jessica Roswall, the President of the Social and Economic Committee, and the President of the Committee of Regions, who all visited the stands at the pavilion.

We are very satisfied with the success of our stand at the WRF, which proved valuable from multiple perspectives. We had the privilege of engaging directly with Commissioner Jessica Roswall, a fantastic opportunity to engage with a key decision-maker at the EU level. Visitors consistently praised our showcase of market-ready fertilisers, noting that it’s rare for EU projects to reach commercial readiness. As we invited visitors to smell our fertilisers for a “social acceptance smell test”, among the 40 diverse participants we identified clear preferences among the fertilisers, with the Goldeimer one emerging as the favourite, followed by VunaNexus, and third the one from Sanitation360. Throughout the day, we had many questions from visitors about our technology. People were keen to know how we eliminate pharmaceutical residues from wastewater, how our fertilisers compare to conventional ones, and whether our systems can be installed in existing buildings. We also discussed the cost of our fertilisers and how they help water treatment plants save money while being better for the environment than mineral or animal-based fertilisers. The high level of interest and thoughtful questions we received confirmed that our presence at the WRF was worthwhile.
