On 13–14 May 2025, the European Rural Circular Bioeconomy Conference (EuRCBC) convened at Comet Louise in Brussels, uniting six Horizon Europe projects, which are at the end of their implementation—BioRural, SCALE-UP, ROBIN, MainstreamBIO, RuralBioUp, and Biomodel4Regions—with the participation of other projects like P2Green who are part of the Rural Bioeconomy Alliance (RBA). This coalition aims to accelerate sustainable, circular bioeconomy initiatives across Europe’s rural regions.
A Collaborative Milestone for Rural Innovation
The two-day event brought together stakeholders from local communities, research institutions, industry, and policymaking to explore strategies for enhancing rural sustainability and resilience through circular bioeconomy practices. Day 1 featured presentations of key project outcomes, including the unveiling of the Toolkits— practical platforms designed to empower rural communities with accessible bioeconomy solutions. Day 2 offered interactive policy sessions, hands-on workshops, train-the-trainer activities, and a dedicated marketplace, facilitating the exchange of cutting-edge developments and fostering new collaborations.
P2GreeN’s Active Participation
Represented by Moverim Srl, P2GreeN contributed to the conference by sharing insights from its latest Position Paper, which outlines innovative approaches to nutrient recovery from human excreta. This aligns with P2GreeN’s mission to establish circular nutrient flows between urban and rural areas, thereby restoring the coupling of the water-agri-food system using a holistic symbiotic resource management approach. Our project emphasizes the 3R principle—Reduce, Reuse, Recover—to halt and eliminate nitrogen and phosphorus pollution by connecting blue urban with green rural infrastructure. P2GreeN’s participation underscored the importance of integrating urban and rural efforts to achieve a sustainable and resilient bioeconomy.

Visual Storytelling Enhances Engagement
To enrich the conference experience, a live note-taker captured presentations and discussions through colorful, illustrated summaries. This visual storytelling provided attendees with a unique and memorable snapshot of the event’s key insights, fostering greater engagement and understanding among participants.
Strengthening the Rural Bioeconomy Alliance
The EuRCBC not only marked the final conference of 6 EU projects but RBA but also reinforced the commitment of the RBA members projects to collaborate and share knowledge. By aligning efforts and resources, the alliance aims to drive forward a greener, more circular rural future, ensuring that bioeconomy initiatives are effectively implemented and scaled across Europe.
P2Green will be the RBA chair for the next 6 months starting from the 1st of May. Next activity in calendar Wednesday, 11 June 2025,is a webinar held as side event of the Green Week: Accelerating Circular Bioeconomy Innovation for Sustainable Rural Development Register now: https://tinyurl.com/jrtp9xvk
