European Commission launches call for evidence for development of European Water Resilience Strategy

Input will be gathered from stakeholders and relevant parties to develop a Europe-wide plan to strengthen our water systems.

The European Commission has launched a call for evidence to seek input from stakeholders in designing the future European Water Resilience Strategy.

The call for evidence is available on the ‘Have Your Say’ portal in all 24 EU languages. Stakeholders can submit their feedback for the four weeks after its publication.

Why Is the Strategy Needed?

Despite strong EU regulations, water scarcity, droughts, and floods are increasing, causing economic losses and environmental damage. Climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss are further straining resources, making urgent action necessary.

Key Objectives & Impact

The strategy sets out to:
Restore and protect the water cycle
Ensure clean, affordable water access
Strengthen the EU’s water industry for a sustainable, circular economy

This will be achieved through improvements in governance, infrastructure, investment, security, and innovation, with a strong focus on water efficiency and reuse.

How to Get Involved

Stakeholders—including governments, businesses, NGOs, researchers, and the public—are invited to participate in consultations and events. The consultation process will include a dedicated high-level event for stakeholders and civil society to provide input “Towards a Water Resilience Strategy for the European Union”.

📢 Registration is open until 10 February. Learn more and have your say via the EU’s consultation portal.

By acting now, the EU aims to safeguard water for future generations, balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility. Stay informed and be part of the conversation!
